"We have never seen such a thing in Mukachevo before", – those who visited Nikolai Shmatko's exhibition said
On the 20th of October in Mukachevo in the square near the town hall in the open air, the exhibition of sculptures by the King of Marble Nikolai Shmatko was arranged. At the opening ceremony, the mayor of the town Zoltan Lendel expressed his confidence that the sculptor's masterpieces would not only find attractiveness at the citizens of Mukachevo but would also become a significant part of the cultural life of the town. The exhibition presented Nikolai Shmatko's well-known art-projects that took part in different international shows, such as "Peace Express", "Christ's Appearance to the Twelve Apostles", "The Ukrainian Potential", "The Blessed Virgin", "The Ukrainian Breakthrough" as well as the much-talked-of sculpture "Morning" made with bronzing. It's worth mentioning that this work again caused a great interest not only by its theme but by the zest of its expression as well. The sculptor immortalized in stone the image of the well-known ballerina Anastasia Volochkova nude with the only elegant cape on her shoulder. The figure was made full-height which required a marble monolith weighting three tons.
The exposition attracted the attention of the town dwellers and its guests at once. The lovers and connoisseurs of arts did not hide their emotions stating that they saw such a gallery for the first time in their lives. The photographer Aleksandr Gudak did not hide his delight either. In his interview to uzhgorod.in he said: "I took pictures of the sculptures in the morning on my way to work. When I was going home later that day, the agiotage downtown was still continuing. At that time I wouldn't have managed to make photos in the town's interior without interference. Such an attention is not surprising because we have never seen such a thing in Mukachevo before. I think that such immense exhibitions when so many art works are located right in the center of the town are unusual for the whole Ukraine. I liked it." With a great interest, the citizens of Mukachevo saw the sketches of fountains, the square of "The Sun" and the would-be art gallery of modern arts which Nikolai Shmatko intends to create in the town.
We would like to remind you that a month ago the sculptor left Luhansk and moved to Mukachevo where he found possibilities to realize his creative plans in full. Unfortunately, not everything went well in Luhansk as it was planned. The exhibition in the open air is the presentation, the acquaintance of Nikolai Shmatko with the dwellers of the town in which he will have to live and work. The town has accepted him. The town was glad to meet him.
